The Colorado Plein Air Festival is underway through Sept 29 at locations around the state with artists making their creations “en plein air” (in the open air). Several more special “paint outs” are scheduled. (Photo: Rita Cirillo at Evergreen Lake, September 2012)
Today’s Paint Out (Aug 21) is at the Genesee Buffalo Overlook, with Chief Hosa Lodge and Christies of Genesee also available for artists and those who enjoy watching them. Go to I-70 Exit 253 for the Lodge, then head west to get to the buffalo pasture and look for artists there.
This Saturday, Aug 24, the Paint Out will be at Evergreen Lake in Denver’s Dedisse Park, with lots of scenic attractions and activity. On Aug 31, artists will gather for another Paint Out, this time in Historic Downtown Morrison, where artists can choose historic buildings or creekside scenery as subjects. On Sept 7th, Denver’s Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave and Pahaska Tepee will be the setting for one of the last paint-outs in the Mountain Parks.
Artists from all media are invited to participate and have the option of entering one or more pieces into the Colorado Plein Air Arts Festival’s juried competition. Accepted works for a juried competition will be exhibited for the public at the Denver Public Library in November and December 2013, and selected works are displayed at the Evergreen Arts Center in January 2014. See www.gtmd.org for complete festival info.
